Six years ago, collarsandcouplings.com became the only shaft collar and coupling website to offer real time inventory viewing and online ordering. Since then, 38 percent of Collars' customers have signed up to take advantage of these capabilities, reports Dan Whalen, president of Collars and Couplings, Inc.
The website allows wholesalers to look up inventory in real time by keying in a description or part number and then use the order entry function to complete a purchase. Other shaft collars and couplings suppliers’ websites are not set up for direct orders, requiring extra steps such as a phone call or request for quote by e-mail or fax.
“It's a real time-saver for them to browse through our 1,302 stock items. Our customers get what they need without making a phone call or waiting for a call back or a fax,” he explains.
He says that wholesalers with advanced XML protocol capabilities save even more time. "After we hook up to their systems, they enter an order once into their computers to simultaneously generate a purchase order to Collars and Couplings and set up the payable for themselves. For customers without XML capabilities, Collars and Couplings accepts orders and payments via EDI," he adds.
Collars and Couplings caters only to wholesalers, primarily power transmission, industrial supply and fastener distributors. End users who try to order are referred by the firm to its authorized distributors.
