When a coupling connecting two different size shafts fails, what do your customers do? Especially if the shafts are non-standard diameters? Do they stop their production line and await a specially-made replacement?
A better solution is machinable couplings.
Also known as “re-machinable couplings,” machinable couplings are designed with a standard bore size in one end and a pilot hole in the other. So, your customers can re-machine the pilot to any inch, metric or nonstandard diameter.
Before machinable couplings, the only way to connect two nonstandard shafts or inch shafts with metric shafts was through custom machining. But since only one or two are typically needed at a time, set-up costs were high.
“That’s why we sell machinable couplings,” explains Dan Whalen, president of Collars and Couplings, Inc. “They’re great problem solvers. Your customers aren’t phoning an OEM for an expensive replacement. They simply order one from you and have a machine shop quickly re-bore the part to any shaft dimension in minutes.”
“You have a chance to be a real hero to your customers by recommending machinable couplings,” continues Whalen. “And they’re not temporary fixes. These are regular single-split couplings that have all the load values of couplings made from scratch.”
